Having a local music library is not that hard
Honestly, I feel like people came to view this as more 'inconvenient' because they wanted solutions to problems that they just made up for some reason (a phenomenon which I think kinda explains a lot of what went wrong over the past decade, really).
Having actually tried collecting and using a local digital library (thanks Soulseek), it honestly does not feel like the sort of sacrifice people might make it out to be as, especially if you decide to play it on a modern smartphone tbh. Like I get why a lot of people have come to very much not like touchscreen-based phones, but they're honestly pretty superb when it comes to offline music applications (I personally use Phocid on Android, if you're wondering); I feel like more people should actually try those and not keep soley associating playing music on phones with complete and utter garbage like Spotify.
Like I'm not gonna act like we should just get rid of playing music online altogether, but that should primarily be through stuff like Bandcamp or YouTube (not YouTube Music), where it only really acts as a supplement and does not actively try to steer you towards some very shitty ideas about how music should be consumed. Streaming music online and Music Streaming⢠should not be viewed as the same thing in my eyes.
Also, you can easily burn a disc with local files, which is also something some people just kinda forget you can do for some reason. Like physical music and the 'ritual' around it does not have to just be some upper-middle class thing like what you see with the vinyl revival, and CDs are perfectly fine actually; I for one am glad more people are starting to buy less into the "cold digital sound" narrative and actually coming to see it as a good format again.
